The piece transports us into nebulous environments where fragments of landscapes reveal and dissipate themselves. Evanescent silhouettes emerge from the blur, noise and artifacts that make up the visual and sonic horizon.
Fleeting Surfaces presents precisely digitized spaces that are rendered with a very shallow depth of field and a focus that moves continuously into the distance. This optical scanning highlights certain areas of coastlines, mountains and forests, while others disappear. This restricted visibility amplifies the dreamlike dimension of the work, while at the same time examining the phenomena of visual perception. The dense sound environment, spatialized on several loudspeakers, supports this scrambled panoramic vision of a natural world in transformation.
The work was first shown at Espace culturel Georges-Émile-Lapalme from October 6 to November 10, 2022. It was made in the context of a partnership between Place des Arts and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
