Refuges

Refuges, video installation, 2024.

During a stay at Pointe de Moisie in northern Quebec I was struck by the intensity of coastal erosion. Earthen materials of the shoreline were worn away by tidal streams, waves, winds and human actions. The ever-shifting sand banks that emerged and were submerged by the tides and currents at the confluence of the Moisie River and the Gulf of St. Lawrence caught my attention. I witnessed various migratory bird species seeking temporary refuge on these transient islands. I captured these evocative scenes from distant aerial perspectives over several weeks; discretely observing their presence and behavior in a rapidly changing environment.
